Behind the Artwork

Orin began in 2001, on a Saturday off, when I was working as an illustrator for a company.

I drew a girl who had lost her mother and was left alone in the world. She had a bow and arrow, and large wings sheltering her. I didn't know where any of it came from, and I didn't try to explain it. I simply let the figure emerge.

The drawing was in black and white, and Orin remained that way for years.

In 2015, during a difficult and significant turning point in my life, I returned to her through a question that had been occupying me: Is my world gray and dramatic because that is how I paint it, or do I paint it that way because that is how I live?

I didn't know the answer.

But from that moment, Orin began to change. She was given a name, color, and an entire world around her.

At the same time, my own life slowly began to change as well: more nature, more vitality, more curiosity, less heaviness and drama, and more courage to step beyond what was familiar and meet new people.

Since then, Orin has continued to grow with me.

Not as a character I have finished, but as a world I am still discovering.
